THE ORGANIZATION

Sharjah Women’s Sports

A Bold Vision in Sports and a Holistic Empowerment Model

Established in 2016 by an Emiri Decree, Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) is a government entity dedicated to advancing women’s sports across the Emirate of Sharjah through an integrated ecosystem that promotes community sports, nurtures talent, and develops future champions.
Its journey began in 1982 with the establishment of Al Montazah Girls Club, the first women’s sports club in Sharjah, founded under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and led by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi—laying the foundation for organized women’s sports in the Emirate.

THE CLUB

SHARJAH WOMEN’S SPORTS CLUB

An Integrated Sports Ecosystem for Developing Champions and Creating Opportunities

As part of its expansion and specialization strategy, Sharjah Women’s Sports established four dedicated women’s sports clubs across several regions of the Emirate of Sharjah to broaden community outreach, expand sports participation, and provide an integrated competitive environment that supports the development of female athletes in both team and individual sports.

The ecosystem includes Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club, Kalba Women’s Sports Club, and Al Dhaid Women’s Sports Club. Together, these clubs provide training and athlete development within a professional environment focused on enhancing athletic performance and nurturing talent across different age groups.

Today, the Organization’s clubs are home to more than 950 athletes and have collectively achieved over 2,600 medals at local, regional, and international levels—reflecting Sharjah Women’s Sports’ ongoing commitment to advancing women’s sports and strengthening their competitive presence across all levels.

The centre provides specialized sports healthcare services designed to support female athletes through injury prevention, diagnosis, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and integrated sports care.

The centre offers specialized mental and psychological preparation programs aimed at enhancing athlete readiness through mental skills development, pressure management, resilience building, focus training and psychological support services.

ARAB WOMEN'S SPORTS TOURNAMENT

Arab Women Sports Tournament

The idea for the The Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) is the first Arab sports event dedicated exclusively to women’s sports and stands today as one of the region’s leading platforms for female athletic competition. Organized biennially by Sharjah Women’s Sports under the umbrella of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees and accredited by the League of Arab States, the tournament aims to empower Arab sportswomen and strengthen opportunities for athletic and cultural exchange.

Since its launch in 2012, AWST has evolved into a major regional sporting event that brings together clubs and athletes from across the Arab world while contributing to the growing presence of Arab women in regional and international sports.

SPORTS INCUBATORS

Excel Conference

The International Sports Science Conference (Excel) is a global knowledge platform organized by Sharjah Women’s Sports to promote dialogue and knowledge exchange around sports, health, and quality of life by bringing together researchers, academics, experts, and practitioners from diverse disciplines.

Each edition of the conference is built around a scientific theme that reflects current priorities and challenges within the sports sector. The 2026 edition focuses on “Integrating Movement into Education,” highlighting the role of movement in supporting health, development, and cognitive growth through an evidence-based and multidisciplinary approach.

Early Development &
Sports Pathway Initiatives

Specialized programs designed to build a sustainable sports foundation from an early age

Sharjah Women’s Sports develops an integrated ecosystem of sports and educational initiatives targeting early age groups and school environments, with the aim of expanding sports participation, identifying abilities, and promoting sport as a way of life through programs that combine physical literacy, skill development, and character building.

Baby Sports

A foundational initiative launched by Sharjah Women’s Sports to introduce sport at the preschool stage through age-appropriate movement and sports programs designed around children’s developmental needs. The initiative combines movement, play, and exploration within a safe and engaging environment, supporting sensory and motor development, cognitive-motor enrichment, and an early positive connection with sport.

A sports project focused on developing fundamental movement skills in early childhood through gymnastics training sessions that support balance, coordination, flexibility, and concentration within an engaging learning environment that combines movement and play.

An integrated project with Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators, designed to expand sports participation and identify promising athletic talent through structured training programs that enable girls to develop their skills across various sports within a motivating environment.

Elite Sports School

Elite Sports School

A sport-and-education pathway delivered in collaboration with partner schools to integrate structured sports training into the school day, develop students’ athletic abilities, and expose them to a wider range of sports. During the first two years, Sharjah Women’s Sports delivered the sports sessions directly, while in the third academic year its role shifted to technical supervision of specialist teachers, supported by regular monitoring visits to ensure quality and compliance with approved standards.

Specialized Sports Schools

A sport-and-education pathway developed with educational partners, where each school specializes in one or more sports based on its facilities, resources and students’ needs. The selected sports are integrated into PE classes throughout the academic year, with additional training and technical support available where needed. The pathway also includes specialized school tournaments to assess training outcomes and students’ physical, technical and skill development, helping identify and develop promising talent in each sport.

ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT

School Athletics Tournament for Measurements

A competitive athletics initiative delivered in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Sharjah Private Education Authority to broaden participation and assess students’ physical and sport-specific abilities through a science-based approach. The tournament includes physical tests, skill assessments and anthropometric measurements to help identify and develop sporting potential.
