“Baby Sports”… SWS’ Final Piece in a Fully Integrated Women’s Sports Development Ecosystem
Sharjah Women’s Sports has officially completed its comprehensive framework for developing women’s sports with the launch of the “Baby Sports” initiative—marking the final foundational link in a continuous chain that now covers every age group, beginning as early as two to four years old, before school entry.
Over the years, the Organisation has built a robust system supported by strategic agreements with schools, children’s and girls’ centers, and a well-established network of clubs, successfully serving advanced age categories. However, field assessments revealed a pressing need to address the pre-school stage—thus, Baby Sports was born: a natural extension of the system and a groundbreaking step in applying early motor-cognitive enrichment, instilling confidence, sparking joy, and planting the seeds of lifelong athletic passion.
This pioneering project enables children enrolled in nurseries across the Emirate of Sharjah to explore movement in safe, stimulating environments. Specially designed sports programs cater to their developmental needs, using tools sourced from leading global manufacturers and adapted to suit young children's physical and cognitive capabilities. In collaboration with the Sharjah Education Academy, the Organisation’s technical team ensures activities are delivered in an engaging, play-based manner that encourages movement and discovery.
Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of SWS, affirmed the project’s deep-rooted vision:
“With Baby Sports, we lay the cornerstone of our future champions. We believe the first step is where the difference begins—and this program is where it all starts.”
The project has been launched across several nurseries that were specially adapted for the chosen activities. Al Suyoh 7 Nursery introduced judo; Al Falah Nursery in Al Badee welcomed taekwondo; fencing was rolled out at Wasit 2 Nursery; and volleyball was introduced in Al Qulayaa. Meanwhile, Al Layyah Nursery incorporated basketball, Al Bustan Nursery in Al Dhaid featured table tennis, Al Taiba in Al Dhaid hosted karate, and Kalba’s Nursery in Block 19 launched archery.
Moza Al Shamsi, Director of SWS, emphasized the project’s transformative impact:
“This initiative is a turning point in shaping a child’s relationship with sport from their earliest years. It’s not just about providing equipment—it’s about creating a space that nurtures balance, focus, and unleashes the child’s creative energy so they grow up loving movement and challenge.”
Alyazia Al Suwaidi, Head of the Technical Planning and Monitoring Unit, added:
“We don’t impose rigid drills on children. Instead, we offer an environment of joyful exploration—blending play and movement, transforming every activity into an enjoyable learning experience. Each nursery program was tailored after detailed field visits to ensure it meets the children’s developmental needs and encourages holistic motor and cognitive growth.”
With this initiative, Sharjah Women’s Sports adds the final foundational piece to an ecosystem that nurtures athletes at every stage of life. From the safe, imaginative spaces of early play to standing proudly on winners’ podiums, Sharjah once again asserts its leadership in building a sustainable future for women’s sports.
