HER HIGHNESS Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi

Compassionate by birth, humanitarian by nature, and social activist by choice, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates; and a prominent humanitarian and philanthropist whose many roles include the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children. Her Highness is one of the most respected and inspirational visionaries in the Arab world. She has helped to empower women, girls, youth, families, refugees, patients, entrepreneurs, and entire communities in the UAE, the Middle East, and beyond. She is also a leading advocate of numerous social causes such as cancer awareness, education, entrepreneurship, children’s and women’s empowerment and cultural heritage among others. Her numerous initiatives have touched millions of lives affected by war, poverty, cancer, disabilities, abuse and much more. As Her Highness focuses on various aspects of life in the community, she develops numerous causes including social, cultural, philanthropic, and sporting causes. Sports Achievements The Women's Sports Administration was established in 2008 aiming to achieve the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi, by activating the role of women in the sports field and raising awareness in the community about the importance of women's participation in sports, and its contribution to the development and enrichment of their productive capabilities, as well as building healthy and physically lifestyle for future generations. The Administration was designed to be a sports umbrella that embraces women's skills in the sports field. With the multiple achievements of the administration, it was transformed into the Sharjah Women's Sports Organization   in 2016, which aims to serve the sports sector from all aspects, develop women's sports in the United Arab Emirates in general, and the Emirate of Sharjah specifically, aiming for international achievements. As an integral part of the initiatives of the Sharjah Women's Sports, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi directed to launch the Arab Women Sports Tournament in its new identity in 2012, as the tournament journey began in 1997 until 2007 under the name "the Gulf Women Sports Tournament," which included participation from Gulf countries only. The tournament aim was to raise awareness and promote the culture of women's sports in the community, achieve tangible results, and prepare a generation of future female athletes equipped with skills and physical and mental fitness, capable of facing the challenges of the era, and expected to secure achievements both domestically and internationally. The tournament morphed its Gulf edition in 2007, paving the way for the relaunch on an Arab level by 2012 under the name of Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) accredited by the Union Of Arab National Olympic Committees and League Of Arab States. In 2020, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi was awarded an Honorary Certificate of Official Recognition of Dan Grade from the International Karate Federation received from the President of the Emirati and The Asian Federations & Vice President of the International Karate Federation, in appreciation of her efforts in serving the future of women’s sport in Sharjah and the UAE. The award aligns with the strategy of Sharjah to support sports, aiming to achieve the national framework's strategy and goals for the quality of life for all segments of society through an active, positive, and purposeful healthy lifestyle.
