From Preparation to Countdown… Sharjah Sets the Framework for the Eighth Edition of AWST

As the fourth quarter of 2025 unfolds, preparations for the eighth edition of the Arab Women’s Clubs Games have entered an advanced phase—moving beyond initial planning toward finalizing operational details and the overall program, ahead of the Tournament’s official launch on 2 February 2026 in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Throughout this quarter, the Executive Committee intensified its efforts through regular meetings focused on closely monitoring organizational, technical, and operational aspects, ensuring the readiness of competition programs and the steady progress of work in line with approved plans. These efforts reflect the cumulative experience Sharjah has built through successive editions of the Tournament.

Sustained Executive Efforts and Precise Readiness

During the fourth quarter, the Tournament’s committees continued their work at an accelerated pace through regular meetings and ongoing coordination between the Executive Committee and the Oversight and Follow-up Committee. These efforts aim to ensure close attention to every aspect of preparation and to advance readiness in line with the approved plan, reflecting the scale and diversity of the competitions.

This work includes continuous timeline reviews, preparations for welcoming participating delegations, and close monitoring of organizational, technical, and operational aspects—ensuring an integrated edition that reflects the experience Sharjah has built through successive editions of the Tournament.

These efforts fall within a broader framework of collaboration among all working committees, translating the Tournament’s overall vision into effective implementation that reinforces Sharjah’s position as a leading Arab platform for women’s sports.

Qualitative Updates to the Competition Program

The eighth edition of the Tournament brings notable developments to the competition program, reflecting the growing evolution of Arab women’s sports and the expansion of participation across disciplines.

Among the most significant updates is the introduction of Taekwondo for the first time with a G1 classification, officially recognized by the World Taekwondo Federation. This international classification adds substantial technical value to the competitions and offers athletes broader opportunities for internationally recognized competitive engagement.

In addition, Rowing joins the list of approved sports for the first time—highlighting the Tournament’s commitment to diversifying disciplines and opening new avenues for women’s participation, enriching the overall competitive experience.

Key Milestones Ahead of AWST

As part of the preparations, the timeline for the Tournament’s main accompanying events has been officially confirmed. These milestones form key stations along the journey toward the opening of competitions.

The official press conference will take place on 12 January 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Olympic Centre for Women’s Sports, where final details of the Tournament will be announced.

Sharjah will then host the Opening Ceremony on 2 February 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at Al Majaz Amphitheatre, in an evening that marks the ceremonial and symbolic launch of the eighth edition.

“Excel”… The Scientific Dimension Alongside Competition

Alongside the Tournament, Sharjah will host the new edition of the International Conference on Women’s Sports Medicine and Sciences “Excel” on 7 February, as one of the most prominent accompanying initiatives that underscores the integrated scientific and knowledge-based dimension embraced by the Organization in its approach to women’s sports.

“Excel” serves as a specialized platform bringing together leading scientists, experts, academics, and researchers in sports medicine and sports sciences, alongside athletes, coaches, referees, and professionals engaged in women’s sports. The conference focuses on issues related to athletes’ health, performance development, injury prevention, and the transition from participation to professional sport.

The conference reflects a vision that recognizes women’s sports development as extending beyond competition alone, requiring sustained scientific and knowledge-based support that keeps pace with athletic advancement while addressing the physical, psychological, and health-related challenges faced by female athletes—within a framework that respects the unique considerations of women’s sports.

Toward an Edition That Reflects Continuity of Vision

As the countdown to the Tournament begins, preparations move into their final phase, guided by a vision aimed at delivering an edition that embodies accumulated organizational expertise and reinforces Sharjah’s position as a leading Arab platform for women’s sports—one that brings together competition, knowledge, and cultural exchange.

The eighth edition stands as a reflection of this integration, presenting an advanced sports event supported by a parallel scientific program and a comprehensive organizational experience that underscores the continuity of a project designed to offer Arab women athletes broader opportunities to compete, grow, and build their future.
