Sharjah Crowned UAE Women’s Basketball Cup Champions as Khorfakkan Finish Runners-Up After Competitive Final
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club claimed the UAE Women’s Basketball Cup title after defeating Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club 60–50 in the final, held on Saturday, 9 May 2026, at Al Bataeh Cultural and Sports Club. The victory added another domestic title to Sharjah’s season, while Khorfakkan finished runners-up following an impressive competitive campaign.
The final delivered a strong level of competition, marked by fast-paced play, defensive discipline and a clear collective presence from both teams, bringing together two of the season’s strongest-performing sides.
Sharjah gradually established the upper hand through disciplined defensive organisation and quick offensive transitions, while Khorfakkan remained competitive and continued to apply pressure until the closing minutes, once again demonstrating the progress the team has made and its ability to compete in decisive stages.

Fatima Zagrouba, Head Coach of Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club, said reaching the final reflected the team’s development and its steady progress in domestic competition.
“This match was a continuation of a season in which we have seen clear development in the team’s character and in the way the players approach major games. They have shown that they can compete even against teams with greater experience, which in itself is an important indication of the direction in which the team is progressing.
“The team also delivered a strong technical performance, whether in ball possession, defensive and offensive rebounding, or the speed of transition between defence and attack. This reflects the amount of work the players have put in throughout the season. Reaching the final gives the group additional motivation to continue developing and gaining further experience in decisive stages of competition.”
The presence of both Sharjah Women’s Sports Club and Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club in the Cup final, after also establishing themselves among the leading teams in the Women’s General League, reflects a highly competitive season for both sides within the wider framework led by Sharjah Women’s Sports to develop women’s basketball in the UAE.
Three of the organisation’s clubs currently compete in domestic women’s basketball competitions: Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club and Al Dhaid Women’s Sports Club.
Their presence has helped create sustained competition across both the league and cup, contributing to a higher technical standard of matches, a broader player base and greater opportunities for younger athletes to gain exposure and experience within a consistent competitive environment.
This domestic progress has also been matched by a notable Arab presence this season. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club claimed the silver medal in basketball at the eighth edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament 2026, while Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club made its first appearance at the tournament. The participation reflected the expanding regional presence of the organisation’s clubs and provided the players with valuable technical exposure and competitive experience.
With this momentum continuing, Sharjah Women’s Sports Clubs are playing an increasingly influential role in shaping the domestic women’s basketball landscape by fielding teams capable of sustained competition and helping raise the overall quality of local championships.
