21 Medals Highlight Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s Dominance at the UAE Indoor Archery Cup

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club delivered an impressive performance at the UAE Indoor Archery Cup, held over two stages on 9–10 and 16–17 May 2026 at Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah. The championship brought together leading specialist clubs from across the UAE, with closely contested competition and high levels of precision over the 18-metre distance.

Alongside Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, the championship featured Fujairah Martial Arts Club, Abu Dhabi Archery Club, The Archers Club and Mushrif Academy, with Sharjah’s athletes standing out across both the qualification and final rounds in a range of categories.

During the 16 May competitions, Sharjah’s younger athletes produced particularly strong results. Alya Faisal Al Sharaa claimed gold in the U12 Recurve category, followed by Fatima Yousuf with silver and Salama Al Ali with bronze, completing an all-Sharjah podium.

Shamma Jassim Al Kaabi also secured gold in the U15 Recurve category, while Shahad Jawhar added bronze. In the U15 Compound category, Maha Thamer Al Shamsi claimed silver.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club also maintained its strong presence in the team events, winning two gold medals in the U12 and U15 Recurve categories. The U12 team featured Alya Faisal Al Sharaa, Salama Al Ali and Elma Sigri, while the U15 team comprised Shamma Al Kaabi, Shahad Jawhar and Cambria Patino, reflecting the technical cohesion and clear development of the club’s younger age groups.

Commenting on the performances, Zukhro Tagaeva, Archery Coach at Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, noted that indoor competition presents a different technical challenge from outdoor championships, as the absence of weather and external conditions places greater emphasis on fine technical details.

“In indoor competitions, the smallest details can make a much greater difference because performance depends almost entirely on execution quality and mental consistency throughout each round,” Tajayeva said. “The athletes showed a good level of focus and discipline, and we identified several positive areas that we will continue to build on during the next phase.”

The opening weekend of the championship, held on 9 and 10 May, also produced a series of strong results for Sharjah’s athletes across both qualification and final rounds.

In qualification, Maryam Abdullah finished second in the U18 Recurve category, followed by Amna Al Hammadi in third. In the Women’s Recurve category, Snehal Divakar continued her strong form by finishing first, with Hessa Al Awadi in second.

In Compound, Marwa Salman Al Baloushi topped the U18 category, while Sharjah recorded a one-two finish in the U21 category through Sara Al Mazmi in first place and Maitha Al Nuaimi in second. Amna Al Awadi also continued her strong run by finishing first in the Women’s category.

On the second day, Sharjah athletes secured nine individual medals — three gold, four silver and two bronze.

In Women’s Recurve, Hessa Al Awadi claimed gold, with Snehal Divakar taking silver. Amna Al Awadi continued her dominance in Women’s Compound by winning gold.

Sara Al Mazmi also claimed gold in the U21 Compound category, followed by Maitha Al Nuaimi with silver, while Marwa Salman took silver in U18 Compound. In U18 Recurve, Widad Al Zarooni earned silver and Maryam Abdullah took bronze, while Aisha Iftikhar secured bronze in the U21 category.

In the team events, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club claimed gold in the Women’s Compound competition through Hessa Al Awadi, Aisha Iftikhar and Snehal Divakar, in addition to three further silver medals across the team competitions in U18 Recurve and the U21 and U18 Compound categories.

Mai Al Amri, Deputy Director of Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, said the championship results reflected continued technical development and sustained progress across the different age groups, noting that the spread of podium finishes between younger athletes and the women’s categories demonstrated both the depth of the squad and its ability to maintain a strong competitive presence.

“What we are seeing today is the result of sustained, cumulative work in both technical and mental preparation,” Al Amri said. “What matters most to us is that the athletes continue this gradual development and that every competition adds further value to their experience and readiness for upcoming events.”

The championship results reinforce Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s continued competitive presence in archery, supported by ongoing work to develop its athletes and strengthen their readiness for upcoming competitions at both domestic and international levels.
