Next Monday, “Intilaqa” Opens New Sporting Opportunities for Girls in a Summer of Movement and Fun

Free program for Emirati girls aged 12 to 17 features a variety of sports experiences and awareness workshops

Sharjah Women’s Sports will launch its summer program “Intilaqa” on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the organization’s headquarters in Al Qulaya. The free program targets Emirati girls aged 12 to 17 and combines sport, recreation, and awareness activities, running through August 20.
Held from Monday to Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the program is designed to encourage girls to stay active, introduce them to a variety of sports, and promote sport as part of a healthy lifestyle, without the intensity of formal training or the need for previous sporting experience. Registration remains open, with only a limited number of places still available.
Alyazia Al Suwaidi, Director of the Women’s Sports Department at Sharjah Women’s Sports, said:
“Intilaqa is one of the pathways through which we aim to make sport a greater part of girls’ lives by offering a practical experience that combines variety, enjoyment, and awareness, while giving participants the opportunity to explore different sports in a safe and encouraging environment.
“At this age, our focus is on building a positive and lasting relationship with physical activity, strengthening girls’ confidence in their abilities, helping them discover their interests, and making movement a natural part of their daily lives. Our goal is not simply to offer a temporary summer program, but to create an experience that encourages participants to continue being active after the program ends.”
Over eight days, the program will offer a mix of individual and team sports, including athletics, basketball, volleyball, archery, shooting, table tennis, Pilates, taekwondo, fencing, and rowing, alongside friendly challenges and competitions designed to create an engaging and energetic atmosphere.
The program also includes a visit to the Sharjah Women’s Sports Olympic Centre, where participants will explore its facilities and experience taekwondo and fencing in a specialized sports environment, broadening their understanding of the sports available and giving them the opportunity to try activities that may be new to them.
The sporting activities are complemented by awareness content covering healthy nutrition, mental well-being, and positive daily habits. An interactive workshop will help participants understand the relationship between movement, nutrition, and mental balance, while providing practical information they can apply in their everyday lives.
Noura Al Hamar, Head of the Community Sports Department at Sharjah Women’s Sports, said:
“The program was designed to give participants a varied summer experience that combines sport, recreation, and awareness without requiring any previous sporting experience. The content progresses from introducing the fundamentals of each sport to exercises and friendly challenges, with activities changing each day to maintain the girls’ engagement and enthusiasm.
“We hope every participant leaves the program with a positive experience that encourages her to remain active and perhaps helps her discover the sport that best matches her interests and abilities.”
“Intilaqa” forms part of Sharjah Women’s Sports’ wider efforts to expand sports participation in the community and provide programs and activities that encourage women and girls to discover their abilities and engage in sport within a safe and welcoming environment, in line with the organization’s role in promoting sports culture and enhancing quality of life.
The program will conclude on Thursday, August 20, with a rowing session and a range of recreational and interactive activities, followed by recognition of the participants and the presentation of achievement medals in celebration of their commitment throughout the program. Registration will remain open through the organization’s official channels until all remaining places are filled.
