81 students from 13 schools competed across three stages held throughout the year
Sharjah Women’s Sports honored the winners of the School Athletics Championship, held as part of the Specialized Schools initiative, during an awards ceremony organized on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the taekwondo hall of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Olympic Centre, following competitions staged across three phases during 2026.
The championship brought together 81 students from 13 public and private schools across the Emirate of Sharjah in the 9–10, 11–12, and 13–14 age categories. Students competed in a range of track and field events, including the 50m, 60m and 80m sprints, 150m and 300m races, long jump, shot put, and relay events.
The competitions form part of Sharjah Women’s Sports’ efforts to strengthen the role of sport within the school environment and expand participation among students through structured championships that give them opportunities to demonstrate their physical and technical abilities while developing sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.
In the 9–10 age category, Ghalia Waleed of Zayed Educational Complex – Qatah won the 50m, followed by Maryam Khalid of Sharjah Model School for Boys in second place and Reem Mohammed Al Hammadi of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Suyouh in third.
In the 150m, Hoor Rashid of Al Bataeh School claimed first place, followed by Shamma Mohammed of Zayed Educational Complex – Qatah in second and Alya Ashwani of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Suyouh in third. In the 300m, Al Ghala Rashid of Sharjah Model School for Boys finished first, followed by Rawda Ahmed of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Rahmaniya in second and Moza Saif from the same school in third.
In the field events for the same age group, Mahra Saud of Asma’a School won the long jump, followed by Alya Nasser from the same school in second and Hind Ahmed Mustafa of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Rahmaniya in third.
In the shot put, Mahra Mohammed Ahmed of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Rahmaniya claimed first place, followed by Aisha Yaqoub Yousuf from the same school in second and Mahra Yousuf of Asma’a School in third. Zayed Educational Complex – Al Suyouh won the relay, followed by Al Bataeh School in second and Al Andalus School in third.
In the 11–12 age category, students from Zayed Educational Complex – Qatah swept the 60m podium, with Sheikha Ahmed finishing first, Taif Mohammed second, and Maha Ibrahim third.
In the 150m, Meera Fareed of Zayed Educational Complex – Qatah took first place, followed by Mahra Khalfan of Al Nouf School in second and Mahra Ahmed of Al Bataeh School in third. In the 300m, Shahad Fahad of Al Nouf School claimed first, Aisha Nasser of Emirates American School finished second, and Fatima Jassim of Zayed Educational Complex – Qatah placed third.
In the long jump, Maram Obaid of Al Nouf School won first place, followed by Salama Saeed Matar of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Rahmaniya in second and Rose Rashid Ibrahim from the same school in third.
In the shot put, Dana Yousuf Salem of Al Nouf School finished first, followed by Rahaf Yousuf and Sara Khalid, also from Al Nouf School. Al Nouf School also won the relay, with Zayed Educational Complex – Qatah in second and Gulf American School in third.
In the 13–14 age category, Amena Yousuf Al Mazmi of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Rahmaniya won the 80m, followed by Madia Khalid of Al Nouf School in second and Amira Jaber of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Rahmaniya in third.
In the 150m, Dana Hazza of Zayed Educational Complex – Al Rahmaniya claimed first place, followed by Mashael Tayeb of Ruqaya School in second and Shahad Mubarak, also of Ruqaya School, in third.
The 300m saw Emirates American School athletes sweep the podium, with Fatima Saeed finishing first, Aisha Al Suwaidi second, and Fatima Mohammed third.
In the field events for the same category, Madia Khalid of Al Nouf School won the long jump, followed by Hind Obaid of Zayed Educational Complex – Qatah in second and Nouf Shami of Al Manar School in third.
In the shot put, Sheikha Arif Abdo of Wasit School claimed first place, followed by Sheikha Ali Saeed of Gulf American School in second and Sara Mustafa Ahmed of Wasit School in third.
Zayed Educational Complex – Qatah won the relay, followed by Al Bataeh School in second place and Ruqaya School in third.
Alyazia Al Suwaidi, Head of the Technical Preparation and Follow-up Section at Sharjah Women’s Sports, said athletics represents an important component of the Specialized Schools initiative because it provides opportunities to identify a broad range of abilities among students.
“Athletics gives students the opportunity to test their abilities in speed, endurance, strength, and coordination, all of which are fundamental components of school sports development,” she said. “Through these competitions, we aim to diversify sporting experiences within schools and provide a competitive environment that helps students discover and progressively develop their potential.”
She added:
“Staging the competitions across several phases before honoring the winners at the conclusion reflects our commitment to making the school sports experience structured and continuous. The championship is not intended to be a one-off event, but rather a stage within a broader pathway to strengthen sport in the educational environment and continue monitoring the abilities that emerge through these competitions.”
Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sports, said:
“These competitions demonstrate the importance of school sport in building students’ character, strengthening their self-confidence and discipline, and developing their ability to approach competitive experiences with a positive mindset. The participation of this number of schools and students also highlights the importance of partnerships with educational institutions in expanding the base of sports participation.”
She added:
“We congratulate all the winning students and greatly value the efforts of the schools, physical education teachers, and parents. The success of these competitions depends on the integration of roles between Sharjah Women’s Sports and the educational environment. We look forward to continuing to develop the Specialized Schools initiative in a way that further establishes sport as an essential part of students’ daily lives.”
Through the Specialized Schools initiative, Sharjah Women’s Sports continues to deliver school programs and championships across different age groups, with the aim of promoting a sporting culture, developing physical and technical abilities, and building a strong base that enables students to progress from school participation toward more specialized sporting pathways in the future.
