SWSC Wins 11 Medals at the UAE Fencing Federation Championship for Seniors and U13 Categories
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club continued its winning streak at the UAE Fencing Federation Championships, delivering a strong performance across the senior and U13 individual and team categories held on April 26 and 27 at Al Mizhar Sports Club In Dubai, with widespread participation from clubs across the country.
On Saturday, April 26, the club’s fencers shone in the senior individual events, achieving podium finishes across all three disciplines. In the épée, Lamar Al Nahla claimed first place, while Afrodit Hatem Ahmad secured second. In the foil, Habiba Mohammed continued her impressive form, taking gold, while Zainab Mousa earned the bronze. In the saber, Maryam El Daghidi delivered a dominant performance to secure the gold medal.
The momentum continued on Sunday, April 27, with the team events and U13 individual competitions.
In the senior team competitions, the épée team of Al Anoud Al Saadi, Afrodit Hatem Ahmad, Zainab Al Hosani, and Sheikha Al Zaabi took home the gold. The saber team, featuring Afraa Al Baloushi, Maryam El Daghidi, and Fatima Al Baloushi, also topped the podium. The foil team, comprising Habiba Mohammed, Zainab Mousa, Shamma Al Muhairi, and Aliaa Al Alili, finished with a silver medal after a competitive showing.
In the U13 individual events, Maha Al Zarouni and Noura Al Ketbi won bronze in the saber, while Reem Al Serkal earned bronze in the épée, reinforcing the growing presence of Sharjah’s rising talents.
Hassan Al Zouari, Fencing Technical Director & head coach for épée and foil, commented:
“This championship clearly showcased an improvement in the athletes’ mental readiness and tactical discipline. Their calm execution and responsiveness to coaching during the matches, particularly in épée and foil, was a highlight. We’re moving in the right direction and will keep refining our technical and defensive skills to ensure consistent performance in future competitions.”
Ibrahim Souissi, head coach for saber, added:
“We’re pleased with the composure and courage our athletes displayed. Their physical readiness and offensive precision have improved, especially in how they timed their attacks and defensive actions. Despite the tough matchups, the team maintained its competitive spirit. We’re continuing to build tactical awareness among the athletes to elevate their future results.”
These results reflect the upward trajectory of the club’s fencers across all categories and reaffirm the success of SWS programs aimed at developing elite athletes capable of excelling on national and international stages.
